You mail the completed application yourself. Pinpoint does not process applications or decide whether the state approves them, and we cannot guarantee approval. You are welcome to contact us if questions or issues arise during the process.
Pinpoint does not provide fingerprinting. Fingerprinting is handled separately through IdentoGO. Assistance with an armed guard application does not include armed training; Pinpoint no longer offers armed training.
Appointments and Timing
Call (718) 667-6422 to arrange an appointment at 159 New Dorp Plaza, Suite 201, Staten Island, NY 10306. Our office is typically open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Calling ahead is recommended because availability depends on the training class schedule and office staff availability.
Application assistance typically takes about 30 minutes. When a client’s background check is clear and the paperwork is complete, Pinpoint’s typical estimate for receiving a new security guard license is four to six weeks after mailing. Most clients receive a response from the state within that period. This is an estimate based on our clients’ experience, not a guaranteed processing time. Incomplete paperwork or additional review can affect timing.
Application Assistance Fees
Application assistance is $30 cash or $33.85 by card. As with our other services, a small cash discount is available. This does not include the fee submitted to the State of New York or separate fingerprinting fees.
If you completed your training at Pinpoint and need a duplicate certificate, we can provide one for $10 when attendance can be verified. If you trained elsewhere, contact that training school.
How the Process Can Work
A client contacted Pinpoint for help completing a New York State security guard application. After an office appointment, the client completed fingerprinting with IdentoGO and mailed the application. The client received their registration about a month later and began working as a security guard shortly afterward. Individual outcomes and processing times vary.

I do not have my training certificate. How do I get it?
Contact the school where you completed your training for a duplicate certificate. If you trained at Pinpoint, we can provide a duplicate for $10 as long as attendance can be verified.
What else do I need to mail with the application?
For a typical initial unarmed security guard application, include a copy of your 8-hour pre-assignment training certificate, proof of completed fingerprinting and the $36 state application fee. This can be paid by a $36 money order, following the state’s payment instructions. Follow the current state application instructions, including the DMV consent section and accepted payment methods. Armed applications and applicants with training exemptions or waivers may need different or additional documentation. Pinpoint can help you identify the documents for your application.
Will my application be accepted or rejected?
The New York State Department of State makes that decision. Pinpoint assists with completing the application and gathering documentation but does not guarantee approval. Contact us if an issue arises and we will help where we can.
How do I get a money order?
Money orders are available from the United States Postal Service and many banks. Check with the provider about availability and fees, and follow the state application instructions for the payment amount and payee.
How long does it take?
