When to Contact Pinpoint

Clients usually call when papers must be served or legal support completed accurately before a deadline and the recipient, address, method, or proof requires professional attention. Common triggers include:

  • A summons, complaint, petition, notice, order, subpoena, citation, or other paper has been issued and must be delivered under the applicable rules and counsel’s instructions.
  • The service deadline or return date is approaching, the assignment is urgent, or several parties, addresses, jurisdictions, or coordinated attempts are involved.
  • An address is stale, incomplete, commercial, gated, secured, or otherwise uncertain, or the individual may have moved, changed employment, or be avoiding contact.
  • Counsel needs to identify the proper company, registered agent, authorized recipient, residence, workplace, routine, or other lawful service location before attempting delivery.
  • Prior attempts failed, the recipient’s schedule is irregular, service is disputed, or a clear factual record of each attempt and result is especially important.
  • The case also requires a witness locate or interview, courthouse or public-record retrieval, document delivery, site inspection, camera canvass, surveillance, or evidence-preservation assignment.

What to Expect

Initial intake: we identify the court or agency, jurisdiction, case caption and number, documents and parties, service deadline or return date, authorized method, counsel or client contacts, prior attempts, safety issues, confidentiality, and required updates.

Information requested may include complete service copies, filing or issuance details, target names and aliases, photographs, descriptions, known addresses and employers, companies and registered agents, vehicles, schedules, public profiles, contact restrictions, special court orders, and any required witness fee or mailing instructions.

Scope and authorization: Pinpoint checks that the package and instructions are operationally complete, recommends any lawful locate or field preparation, explains attempts, coverage, fees and expenses, and begins after written terms and the retainer are complete. Counsel remains responsible for legal sufficiency and the selected method.

Execution: appropriately authorized or licensed personnel make documented attempts, follow access and safety rules, avoid trespass or coercion, and communicate material developments. The papers are not altered, interpreted, or supplemented by the server.

Successful service: the client receives a factual affidavit, proof, declaration, or other required return stating the papers, person or recipient, date, time, place, manner, identifying details, and other jurisdiction-specific information for counsel’s review and filing.

Unsuccessful service: the client receives a detailed attempt and non-service report, updated locate information when included, and practical follow-up options. Counsel decides whether to extend time, authorize more attempts, select another permitted method, or seek court-ordered alternative service.

Timing and Availability

An urgent assignment may begin the same day or next business day when authorized personnel are available and the complete papers, instructions, target information, deadline, safety details, written engagement, and retainer are ready. No start or completion time is guaranteed until accepted.

A routine local assignment may be attempted promptly, but completion depends on the recipient’s presence, correct address, access, authorized method, number and timing of attempts, and whether mailing or another follow-up step is required.

A focused address, employment, entity, or registered-agent verification commonly takes about one to three business days; a difficult locate may take three to seven business days or longer when identifiers or records are limited.

Evasive subjects, guarded or multi-unit properties, multiple parties, surveillance-supported service, long-distance travel, weather, safety issues, foreign or interstate coordination, witness work, and court or agency records can extend the assignment.

Material updates are provided promptly. Proof or a non-service report follows review of the server’s notes and required records; counsel should allow additional time for filing, court review, and any challenge to service.

Why Pinpoint

Experienced supervision: work is supervised by Igor Galitsky, a retired NYPD Sergeant/Supervisor Detective with 23 years of law-enforcement and investigative experience.

Licensed investigative capability: Licensed Private Detective, in New Jersey and New York, with practical New York/New Jersey locate, court-record, corporate-record, witness, surveillance, site, and field-investigation experience.

Jurisdiction-aware coordination: service is assigned to appropriately authorized or licensed personnel as required, including compliant New York City process servers and vetted local partners when the matter is outside the immediate coverage area.

Investigative support for difficult service: identity, address, employer, company, registered-agent, vehicle, associate, property, public online, and routine information can be verified before more time is spent at a bad location.

Evidence discipline and safety: attempts are planned lawfully, documented contemporaneously, and supported by the required records while avoiding trespass, confrontation, coercion, impersonation, or unsafe shortcuts.

One accountable workflow: clients receive clear communication, coordinated attempts and locates, detailed proof or non-service reporting, and related witness, record, surveillance, scene, or evidence support without overstating what service establishes.

Important Limits

  • Valid service is not simply handing papers to anyone at any address. The authorized person, recipient, place, timing, delivery, mailing, filing, and proof requirements can vary by document, court, entity type, and jurisdiction; counsel selects and approves the legal method.
  • No process server can guarantee that a person will be found, present, cooperative, or successfully served by a deadline, or that a court will accept unchallenged jurisdiction. A bad address, avoidance, access restriction, or incorrect instruction may require more work or court relief.
  • A server does not issue, draft, revise, explain, or give legal advice about the papers; calculate legal deadlines; decide which party or method is correct; or choose substituted, affix-and-mail, publication, electronic, or other alternative service without proper authority.
  • Investigators and servers cannot force entry, trespass, threaten, harass, impersonate law enforcement or court personnel, use unlawful tracking, or misrepresent their authority. Safety and lawful access take priority over completion.
  • An affidavit or proof of service is a sworn factual record, not a guarantee that service cannot be disputed. Complete, accurate notes and jurisdiction-required records help counsel respond if a challenge or traverse hearing occurs.
  • There is no universal required number of attempts. The lawful next step depends on the governing rule, the court’s order, prior diligence, deadline, subject information, and counsel’s instructions; one unsuccessful visit does not automatically authorize another method.

A De-identified Example

De-identified matter: Counsel needed to serve a former company officer before an approaching deadline. The address supplied in older records was no longer reliable, and earlier uncoordinated visits had produced no useful information.

What we did: After reviewing the issued papers and counsel’s service instructions, we verified the subject’s identifiers, current residence and business indicators, vehicle and public information, and likely schedule. The matter was assigned to appropriately authorized personnel, and documented attempts were planned for varied lawful times and locations with prompt updates to counsel.

General result: Service was completed by the method counsel authorized, and a detailed proof was prepared with the papers served, recipient, date, time, place, manner, identifying information, and required records. Counsel received an organized return for review and filing; Pinpoint did not interpret the papers or promise that service could not later be challenged.
